“All I wanna do is live my life on a runway…”
House of McQueen is an electrifying new Off-Broadway production at The Mansion, reimagining the life and imagination of legendary fashion designer Alexander McQueen. Told through a fractured, memory-soaked lens, the play traces McQueen’s journey from East London’s council flats to Paris catwalks, exploring how he turned trauma into artistry and the runway into a battleground for identity and survival.
Visually stunning and emotionally raw, the show blends fashion shows, family confrontations, and public spectacle into a surreal fever dream. Lee’s intense bond with his mother, sister, and muse Isabella Blow grounds the story in love, loss, and creative obsession.
Rather than mythologize McQueen, the production reveals the boy beneath the brand - the fighter, the lover, the visionary. Bold, intimate, and unapologetically theatrical, House of McQueen captures the rage, beauty, wit, and defiance of an artist who demanded depth in a world of surface.
