Helen Glover, Rebecca Wilde and more will compete go for gold at the Paris 2024 Olympics this week
So far, it’s been a pretty successful Olympics for Team GB. We’ve already bagged several gold medals in events like mountain biking, equestrian eventing, shooting and swimming (see the full medal haul here) – and plenty of the team’s best sports are still to come.
Historically speaking, rowing is one of Team GB’s most successful sports (in fact, according to Team GB itself, it’s the country’s third-most successful Olympic sport). GB has produced countless legendary rowers, including Sir Steve Redgrave, Dame Katherine Grainger and Sir Matthew Pincent.
And GB has already triumphed in the rowing. In the women’s quadruple sculls on Wednesday (July 31), Lauren Henry, Lola Anderson, Hannah Scott and Georgina Brayshaw received gold medals in a spectacular photo finish. Yesterday (August 1), Helen Glover, Esme Booth, Sam Redgrave and Rebecca Shorten took home silver in the women’s four, while bronzes were won in the women’s double sculls (Mathilda Hodgkins-Byrne and Becky Wilde) and men’s four (Oli Wilkes, David Ambler, Matt Aldridge and Freddie Davidson).
GB’s rep for Olympic rowing supremacy is hoping to be continued today (August 2), which will see more action at the Vaires-sur-Marne Nautical Stadium. Hoping to catch the rowers in action? Here’s everything you need to know (see a full schedule of Friday’s Olympic action here)

Helen Glover, as a two-time Olympic champion, is obviously the one to watch when it comes to Team GB’s rowers – but she isn’t the only acclaimed athlete on the team. Lightweight double scullers Imogen Grant and Emily Craig may have missed out on gold in Tokyo, but they’ve been unbeaten since.
Coverage of major rowing races will be available on the BBC, on BBC One/Two and BBC iPlayer.
Full coverage, however, will only be available on Eurosport and Discovery+.
