Following dozens of pub sales since 2023, ’Spoons is set to close and sell more sites in 2025
Ah, Wetherspoons. Teeming with students, retired folks, pre-club revellers and just normal people out for an affordable pint, ’Spoons is beloved by all. Sure, the guy that runs it all is a little, erm, controversial but it’s tough to argue with such cheap drinks. And when a Wetherspoons closes down, it feels like a huge community loss.
Since Wetherspoon announced the company intended to sell off pubs way back in July 2023, dozens of the boozers have shut. Several more are now set to shut, either because they’re up for sale, under offer or closing for other reasons. Last week the chain announced that it will be opening 15 more pubs up and down the UK, and you can find out more about those here.
It’s worth noting that ’Spoons doesn’t appear to be struggling financially – quite the opposite, in fact. From July 2023 to July 2024 the chain reported sales growth of 8 percent, and in the 13 weeks up to the end of April 2025 its profits rose by 5.6 percent. Wetherspoon regularly puts its pubs on the market, and these boozers often reopen as other pub brands.
Here’s what we know about Wetherspoon pubs currently for sale, as well as those which have closed.
According to Metro, just one Wetherspoons pub is currently on the market. That is:
A further one is ‘under offer’:
And one more is set to close:
At the tail-end of last year, several ’Spoons closed including The Hain Line in Cornwall, Foot of the Walk in Leith and The George in Wanstead.
This is the full list of Wetherspoon pubs that closed in 2024.
As it stands, Wetherspoons owns just under 800 pubs across the UK and Ireland – and it’s opening new outposts all the time (including a huge hotel in a historic English seaside town). You can find your local on the official website here.
