When putting together a list of the best documentaries on Netflix, we decided to exclude any that weren’t made by the streaming giant themselves. Why? Because Netflix are really, really good at making docs. Simple.

There is something fulfilling, relaxing, and educational about watching professionals cook in front of us, especially with production values to die for.

That’s not to say that there aren’t true crime documentaries on our list. But joining them is a wide selection of documentaries that vary in theme and scope, touching on everything from food to technology and social justice. While the company's roster of family movies, feel-good films, comedies and more is truly outstanding, the documentaries available for streaming on the platform would, arguably, not even exist if not for Netflix. With that in mind, here are our picks of the best documentaries streaming on Netflix right now.
