Artsy Accessibility Statement

Last updated: August 28, 2025

Our Commitment to Accessibility

At Artsy, we are committed to ensuring that our digital services are accessible and inclusive for all individuals, including those with disabilities. Our mission to make art accessible to anyone, anywhere extends to every aspect of the user experience — from browsing and discovering artworks to buying and selling them online.

We recognize the importance of designing inclusive experiences in accordance with international accessibility standards and European legislation, including the European Accessibility Act (Directive (EU) 2019/882).

About Artsy Services

Artsy provides an online platform that enables users to:

  • Browse and discover artworks
  • Follow artists, galleries, and save artworks
  • Purchase and bid on art
  • Access art market insights, articles, and exhibition information
  • Use our mobile applications for iOS and Android

The service is available in accessible formats, including mobile and web interfaces that support assistive technologies and flexible navigation modes.

How the Service Operates

Key user interactions supported on the platform include:

  • Search and Navigation: Keyword search, filtered browsing, and artist discovery
  • Artwork Viewing: Detailed artwork pages including descriptions, prices, contact, and purchase options
  • Account Management: Signing up, logging in, and saving artworks
  • Transactions: Placing bids, making offers, and purchasing works

These flows are continuously assessed for accessibility features such as keyboard navigation, focus order, ARIA landmarks, and compatibility with screen readers.

Compliance Status

Artsy has taken steps to align with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA). We have tested high-traffic user journeys such as:

  • Homepage and navigation menus
  • Artist profile pages
  • Individual artwork pages
  • Auction and bidding workflows

These pages are designed to support assistive technologies including:

  • Screen readers (VoiceOver, NVDA)
  • Keyboard-only navigation
  • Descriptive alternative text for images
  • Proper semantic HTML and ARIA 1.1/1.2 markup

We are actively working toward broader coverage of the EN 301 549 standard and will incorporate further improvements aligned with EN 17161:2019 (Design for All) where appropriate.

Known Limitations

While we strive for comprehensive accessibility, some lower-volume or legacy pages may not yet fully comply with WCAG 2.1 AA or EN 301 549. These areas are identified through internal testing and updated as part of our roadmap, based on:

  • User feedback
  • Page traffic
  • Functional importance

Audit and Testing Approach

Our compliance assessment included:

  • Internal self-audits by the Artsy team
  • Automated scanning tools (e.g., PowerMapper)
  • Targeted manual testing of high-traffic pages
  • Reference to multiple standards: WCAG 2.1 AA, EN 301 549, and Section 508

We conduct periodic accessibility audits and monitor compliance with relevant standards. Documentation of our internal accessibility testing and audits is available for review by regulatory authorities upon request.
